Senior Accounts Payable Officer

London Business School are looking for a highly organised and detail-focused Senior Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance team and help deliver an accurate, timely and compliant accounts payable service across the School.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced purchase ledger professional who enjoys working in a busy environment, maintaining high standards and supporting colleagues across a collaborative finance function.
You will be responsible for supporting the accurate, timely and compliant processing of the School’s purchase ledger across all business areas, while acting as a senior point of expertise within the Accounts Payable function.
You will support end-to-end purchase ledger activity, including payment runs, supplier management and month-end reporting. You will also provide day-to-day guidance to junior colleagues, help maintain process integrity and support continuous service delivery across the wider Accounts Department.
This is a senior operational role with supervisory responsibility, but no formal line management.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate, timely and compliant purchase ledger processing across the School.
- Support end-to-end Accounts Payable activity, including invoice processing, supplier management, payment runs, month-end support
- Act as a senior point of expertise within the AP function.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to junior colleagues.
- Help manage high volumes of email communication to ensure prompt responses and accurate information flow.
- Prepare journals and support monthly reporting and KPI production.
- Resolve internal and external queries effectively and professionally.
- Provide flexible support and cover across the wider Accounts Department as needed.
- Contribute to maintaining accurate financial records and effective financial operations.
Who we are looking for
- Bookkeeping, AAT Level 2/3, or equivalent qualification or significant relevant experience.
- Strong working knowledge of standard IT applications and finance systems; experience with TechnologyOne is advantageous.
- Demonstrable experience in a high-volume purchase ledger environment.
- Experience working within structured financial processes and controls.
- Comfortable managing routine tasks while also handling more complex queries independently.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, using sound judgement with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- Ability to learn quickly, take ownership of tasks and contribute to improving processes.
