Senior Software Developer
The Role
London Business School are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to play a key role in designing, building and running reliable, secure, and scalable backend services across a complex digital ecosystem.
You’ll work across a mix of modern cloud-based platforms and established applications that underpin business-critical processes. You’ll collaborate closely with frontend developers, QA, product, and architecture, bringing strong engineering judgement to both new delivery and the ongoing evolution of existing systems.
This is a hands-on senior role with real technical ownership - not a people-management post, but one where your technical judgement genuinely matters.
You’ll be working on systems that genuinely matter, with the opportunity to influence technical direction, improve ways of working, and help shape a more sustainable backend estate. We value thoughtful engineering, collaboration, and clarity over heroics.
Main Responsibilities
- Designing and developing backend services, APIs, and integrations using modern engineering practices
- Owning and supporting backend services in production, including performance, resilience, and security
- Supporting andmaintaininglegacy applications whererequired, while actively contributing to theirstabilisation, improvement, ormodernisation
- Working with cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines to deliver frequent, reliable releases
- Collaborating with frontend developers, QA, and delivery leads to shape well-designed solutions
- Contributing to architectural decisions, technical standards, and coding best practice
- Supporting and mentoring other developers through code reviews and knowledge sharing
- Improving legacy systems pragmatically, balancing risk, delivery needs, and technical debt
Who we are looking for
- Strong experience as a backend developer in a modern engineering environment
- Solid experience with.NET / C#and API-driven architectures
- Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Strong understanding of integration patterns, data flows, and security consideration
- Comfortable working with CI/CD, automated testing, and production support
- A pragmatic problem-solver who can balance quality, speed, and operational realities
- Confident communicator who can explain technical decisions clearly
- Experience working inAgile delivery environments, withScrum as the primary framework
- A mindset geared towardscontinuous improvement, learning, and refining ways of working
- Experience building and supportingASP.NET / ASP.NET MVC applications and Web APIs
- Experience developing.NET services and librariessupporting integrations and line-of-business systems
- Hands-on experience withAzure Function Appsfor serverless and microservice-style workloads
- Experience integrating withthird-party platforms(e.g.payments, CRM, messaging, and data services)
- Familiarity withevent-driven architectures and messaging
- Experience supporting andmodernisingestablished technologies(e.g.WinForms, jQuery Mobile, Cordova, ETL tooling)
