Head of Communications

The Role

Are you seeking to lead an integrated communications function?

We are looking for a Head of Communications to add resilience to the team, providing support to staff and faculty and contributing to our strategic plan to achieve more sustainable impact.

Reporting to the Chief Engagement Officer, the role will job-share with our existing Head of Communications, sharing leadership of the communications team which includes PR, internal communications, change communications and community engagement. You will take particular responsibility for supporting the team delivering our Five-Year strategic plan, and our Sustainability Programme.This role will suit a candidate with experience in change and sustainability communications, though the role will also cover business-as-usual activity.  

Please note, this will be 50% of a full-time role, covering each Thursday and Friday. Use of the remaining hours will be flexible to ensure appropriate handover time and maintain continuity of leadership, and will be agreed with the successful candidate and the job-share partner.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead an integrated communications function including media, public relations, internal, change and stakeholder comms.  
  • Responsible for performance, ensuring that the team’s activities are delivered efficiently and effectively and enable achievement of the School’s strategic objectives and vision. 
  • Develop and execute communication strategies, an annual plan for the Communications function, and performance reporting.   
  • Engage channel and content owners at LBS to ensure clarity of messaging and alignment with the LBS narrative and the Five-Year Plan.  
  • Ensure audience needs, wants and goals are understood by the communications team and inform strategy.  
  • Provide counsel on best practice communications and reputation management.
  • Coach and mentor those in direct reporting lines. 
  • Take collective responsibility for the Five-Year Plan, understanding and advocating for the plan, promoting desired behaviours and developing the required leadership skills.   

Who we are looking for

 

  • Professional qualification or equivalent experience.  
  • Excellent communicating and influencing skills, with the ability to negotiate, collaborate and influence.  
  • Experience of managing multiple key internal and external stakeholders at all levels.  
  • Experience of leading a portfolio of projects, campaigns or initiatives.  
  • Extensive awareness of the activities of the organisation and competitor business schools.  
  • Ability to scan the horizon, identify industry best practice and translate this into future planning for own area of specialism.  
  • Proven financial management skills and strong commercial acumen. 
  • Broad understanding of each of London Business School’s activities and offerings.
