Senior Azure DevOps Engineer
Help shape how engineering teams build, deploy and operate technology at London Business School.
The Role
London Business School is looking for a Senior Azure DevOps Engineer to strengthen our engineering capability and help us mature the way we build, deploy and operate technology across a varied technology estate.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with ownership, judgement and the ability to influence across multiple engineering and delivery teams.
You won’t simply be handed a backlog of DevOps tasks. We’re looking for someone who can assess where we are today, identify the areas that will make the biggest difference, recommend practical improvements and then take those improvements through to implementation and adoption.
Working closely with engineering teams, Architecture, Cyber Security, Delivery and operational support colleagues, you will help make our technology delivery more automated, secure, reliable and predictable.
Main Responsibilities
You will take senior technical ownership across our DevOps capability, including:
Designing, implementing and improving Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, reusable YAML templates and deployment controls.
Driving greater adoption of Infrastructure as Code, using technologies such as Terraform.
Improving automation across build, release, environment provisioning and operational processes.
Developing and evolving practical DevOps standards, patterns and reusable engineering approaches.
Helping teams improve release quality, deployment reliability, rollback capability and operational readiness.
Strengthening monitoring, logging, alerting and observability across applications and platforms.
Embedding security into pipelines and cloud infrastructure, including secrets management, identity controls and automated security checks.
Identifying technical debt, manual processes and recurring operational issues and turning them into prioritised improvement opportunities.
Working across multiple teams to resolve dependencies and differing levels of DevOps maturity.
Coaching and enabling engineers so that good DevOps practice becomes embedded across our teams rather than dependent on one individual.
Translating agreed engineering priorities into a pragmatic, phased DevOps improvement roadmap and driving delivery against it.
Who We Are Looking For
You’ll be an experienced DevOps or cloud engineer who is comfortable operating with a high degree of independence.
Alongside strong hands-on Azure expertise, you’ll be able to demonstrate:
Strong experience with Azure and Azure DevOps.
Deep understanding of CI/CD and experience designing scalable deployment pipelines.
Strong practical experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
Experience implementing effective monitoring, logging and alerting.
Good understanding of Git, branching strategies and modern release and deployment approaches.
Experience embedding security and governance into cloud and pipeline configurations.
The ability to take ambiguous technical problems from discovery through recommendation, implementation and adoption.
Strong judgement when balancing delivery priorities, operational risk and longer-term engineering improvement.
The confidence to challenge existing approaches constructively and recommend better alternatives.
Experience influencing engineering standards and securing adoption across multiple teams.
A collaborative approach and the ability to coach and enable other engineers.
Azure DevOps Engineer Expert certification, or equivalent demonstrable experience, would be highly valued.
